Catherine (Cate) Mart is a lifelong member of the Disciples of Christ denomination, raised as a member of First Christian Church of Georgetown, Kentucky. She now communes at Vine Street Christian Church in Nashville, TN. Cate currently serves on Vine Street’s Ministry Council as well as the Community Grants Committee. She has previously served as an Elder, Deacon, Search Committee Member, and Children’s Worship and Wonder leader both at First Christian Church, Georgetown and at Vine Street Christian Church.
Cate is a medical social worker by training. She received her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Kentucky following a Bachelor of Arts degree from Maryville College (Maryville, TN). She currently works for Vanderbilt University Medical Center as the Manager of Post Acute Care Transitions and Social Work where she provides leadership, as well as direct support, in building safety nets for both acutely and chronically ill patients and their families. Cate has a special interest in addressing social determinants of health concerns in marginalized populations, improving access to behavioral health care, reducing isolation and loneliness among the aged and disabled, and caring for caregivers. Her career has been shaped by a faith tradition that taught her that a spark of the divine is alive in each interaction, when one soul recognizes the humanity of another, and that no one should have to walk through illness alone.
Cate is married to Matthew Mart, a member of the Catholic Church, whose faith also greatly informs her own. Together, they actively lead spiritual lives dedicated to the spirit of ecumenism by exploring and growing in faith together. They reside in Nashville and have three children – Olivia, Aaron, and Sarah.
