The Christian Unity and Interfaith Ministry (CUIM) of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the US and Canada presents a publication that is so timely as Christians continuously live in a context, which Dr. Keum describes as the “ruins” of the empire.
According to Dr. Keum, what we are dealing with in our time is not the empire itself. It is a rather old desire of the dominant political and cultural forces in our time to regain their control over the lives of people with fear and money.
As Christians, how can we overcome this cultural and political phenomenon? Dr. Keum suggests that we need “Transforming Discipleship.” As the subtitle suggests, Dr. Keum suggests to have “faith” at the margins, power of “love” to defeat politics of fear, and “hope” as an agent of change.
The Rev. Dr. Jooseop Keum is Distinguished Professor of World Christianity at the Presbyterian University and Theological Seminary (PUTS). Keum served the World Council of Churches (WCC) based in Geneva, Switzerland for ten years as Director of Commission on World Mission and Evangelism (CWME) and editor of International Review of Mission, which is the missiological journal incepted by the World Missionary Conference in Edinburgh 1910.
